McClellan Park, CA (Jan 30, 2009) – The Sacramento Metro Chamber will recognize one of the region’s leading individuals during the 114th Annual Dinner & Business Awards, set for Friday, Jan. 30*, at the Sacramento Hyatt Regency.
“In a time when running a business takes concentrated focus to succeed, we want to honor best practices,” said Matthew R. Mahood, Metro Chamber President & CEO. “The award recipient demonstrates the ‘new era of responsibility.’ The Metro Chamber believes that beyond the bottom line, business success is measured in how owners and employees engage in the community through volunteer service and support of regional goals.”
Headlining the awards event that honors outstanding business competence and community service is President of McClellan Business Park, Larry Kelley, who has been named the 2008 Businessman of the Year.
Using experience derived from more than 30 years in the real estate industry, McClellan Business Park President Larry Kelley helped transform 16 million square feet of a shuttered air force base into a job-generating high-tech and public safety center.
With accessibility to 3 major freeways, rail services, an airport, large floor plates, and close proximity to downtown Sacramento, the attraction and value of McClellan Park continues to grow. To date MBP has leased 6.2 million square feet of space at McClellan Park, and has another 1 million square feet under negotiation.
“With the completion of significant infrastructure improvements, amenity upgrades and acquisition of surrounding land, in addition to leasing existing buildings, McClellan Park is aggressively pursuing new development and build to suit opportunities. The significant 2008 activity is largely attributable to the growing awareness around the country of the excellent value and amenities at McClellan Park,” Kelley said.
Kelley’s talent and experience has earned him Businessman of the Year, as well as revitalizing an aging, industrial and commercial quadrant of Sacramento.
With 14,000 employees and more than 200 tenants, the 2,880-acre McClellan Park has become a center of economic activity; this entrepreneurial success makes Kelley the 2008 Businessman of the Year.
Kelley is also the founder and managing member of Stanford Ranch I, LLC, a 3,500 acre master planned community in Placer County, California. The highly regarded real estate development project includes approximately 5,500 homes, 2,400 apartment units, in excess of 2MM sf of commercial space and 300 acres of open space.
Kelley received his Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering from Texas A&M in 1968 and his Masters of Business Administration from Harvard Business School in 1971. He is an active member of the National Association of Industrial and Office Parks, the Association of Commercial Real Estate Executives, the Sacramento Area Commerce and Trade Organization, a current Board Member of the Aerospace Museum of California and past Chairman of the Sacramento Council of the Urban Land Institute.
